FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Bounty Contemporary Craft Design Shop at Harbourfront Centre
becomes THE CENTRE SHOP

TORONTO, ON (Jan. 26, 2011) Bounty, the Contemporary Craft Design Shop at Harbourfront Centre, has changed its name to The Centre Shop. For over 30 years, Bounty has been a space for artists-in-residence to display their unique creations crafted in our Craft Studios, and will continue to do so as The Centre Shop.

The Centre Shop specializes in Canadian crafts and design. Many of these items were created at Harbourfront Centre by our resident arts and crafts people, and are available for purchase year-round.

A unique program called CREATIVE GENIUS was initiated in 2009, taking a curatorial approach to find work created by artists from different parts of the world. These items are selected on their ability to improve everyday living as well as being environmentally friendly. One example of these curated retail offerings is the Nahui Ollin handbags and clutches, made in Mexico and crafted out of recycled defective candy wrappers. Most importantly, they are fair trade, ensuring reasonable wages and a safe working environment for the people that construct these bags.

Along with the unique crafts, The Centre Shop carries accessories from Pantone Colour®, gadgets, books, and Harbourfront Centre merchandise.

Harbourfront Centre continues to promote innovative design and craftsmanship through its partnership with the George Brown College Jewelry Design program. Each year the program holds an exhibit in which the graduating students of this program are given the opportunity to show and sell their creations.

The Centre Shop is found on the main level of Harbourfront Centre’s York Quay Centre. For more information and store hours, the public can visit harbourfrontcentre.com or call the Information Hotline at 416-973-4000. Harbourfront Centre is located at 235 Queens Quay West, in the heart of downtown Toronto’s waterfront.
