Montréal’s Dave St-Pierre Returns to World Stage with Un peu de tendresse bordel de merde! (A little tenderness for crying out loud!)
TORONTO, ON (Jan. 18, 2011) – Montréal’s highly acclaimed choreographer Dave St-Pierre brings the provocative dance creation Un peu de tendresse bordel de merde! (A little tenderness for crying out loud!) to Harbourfront Centre’s World Stage 2010–11, February 2 through February 5. The show is the second installment of St-Pierre’s triptych to come to World Stage, and follows the overwhelming critical success of the first episode La pornographie des âmes, performed to sold-out houses as part of the 2008-09 season.
Un peu de tendresse… is an uninhibited and bold exploration of contemporary love. Naked as the truth, 20 male and female dancers take the stage, expressing the irrepressible human need for love and affection through raw physical movement. St-Pierre’s work is often confrontational and controversial but there is an emotional core that speaks to our need to love and be loved. The realism in Un peu de tendresse… is the thread that ties us all together. “The experiences are mine, but they don’t only revolve around me,” says St-Pierre. “They’re everyone’s stories.”
The award-winning choreographer submerges spectators in a search for love with his avant-garde and interactive performances. He has been referred to as the enfant terrible of his time and a provocateur, “[But] what gives his productions integrity is their underlying sincerity: they demonstrate both the ugliness and the beauty of our basic instincts” – Toronto Life. This show has been playing to packed houses in his native Montréal and around the world since its premiere in 2006.
