At Harbourfront Centre’s beautiful 10-acre waterfront site, campers aged three through 15 engage in a fully enriched environment with exceptional facilities and highly qualified and experienced staff who foster a safe and nurturing environment.Harbourfront Centre’s 2011 March Break Camps provide opportunities for skill development and personal growth by offering 16 programmes. Whether a child is keenly interested in problem-solving or design, or craves the spotlight to showcase singing and dancing talents, Harbourfront Centre’s diverse camps maximize learning in a fun environment. A complete description of camps and fees is included in this release.March Break Camps run Monday, March 14 to Friday, March 18, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Harbourfront Centre, 235 Queens Quay West. A supervised extended hours programme, perfect for working parents, is available from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., at an additional cost of $65. Small groups offer a low camper-to-counsellor ratio, ensuring safe supervision and individual attention. Dance, Dance, DanceAges 5-7, $225With the guidance of skilled staff and guest dancers, campers explore contemporary, classical and traditional dance while improving confidence and stage presence. Campers will have the chance to perform their new skills at the end of the week in front of friends and family. Junior Creative ArtsAges 6-8, $235Campers are encouraged to follow their creative instincts through workshops, with emphasis on personal creativity, imagination and technique. Leading campers through the creative process, our skilled artists encourage campers to draw on their own imagination and artistic vision.Discovery Day Camp Ages 6-8, $225 A well-rounded camp experience where campers participate in arts and craft projects, drama and active games, science activities and cooperative programming. Working with skilled staff and specialists, campers explore a world of imagination, creativity and culture.Junior Baker’s DozenAges 6-8, $280In partnership with the Liaison College of Culinary Arts, young bakers get hands-on experience while learning to make baked goods with the guidance of a professional chef. *Please note: Due to the nature of this programme we cannot accommodate campers with food allergies of any kind or any special dietary restrictions.CircusAges 7-12, $265 The ever popular Circus camp includes juggling, acrobatics and clowning. Chess ChallengeAges 8-12, $225Chess enthusiasts, from beginner to advanced, enjoy unparalleled instruction in chess strategy. Skilled instructors teach campers to see the chessboard as tournament professionals do, plus elementary techniques such as how to open a game, defend a piece, avoid stalemate and more.NEW! Comic Book CampAges 8-12, $230This camp is specially designed for comic book and graphic novel enthusiasts. Working with guest illustrators and writers, campers learn how to develop characters and story. Concepts are explored that bring campers’ imaginations to the pages of their very own comic books.Digital Photo CampAges 8-12, $235 (*digital cameras provided)A hands-on introduction to the creation of images using our new media lab gives campers the opportunity to experiment with contemporary digital photography. Campers explore literature with experienced camp staff and special guest authors. This camp stimulates creativity and the imaginative spirit of budding young readers and writers through reading, discussion and workshops.TheatreKIDSAges 8-12, $235TheatreKIDS explores theatre in a relaxed and supportive environment. Working with the director and special guests (when available), campers learn aspects of performance and production while rehearsing for their own show, to be presented for family and friends at the end of the session. Intermediate Creative ArtsAges 9-11, $235Cultural and artistic perspectives are explored through drawing, painting, sculpture and printmaking. Guest artists blend traditional and contemporary art forms, while guiding campers through our galleries and craft studios for context and inspiration.Emerging Chef ChallengeAges 9-12, $330In partnership with Liaison College of Culinary Arts, the largest trainer of chefs and cooks in Ontario, young foodies learn the fundamentals of cooking and nutrition while they create mouth-watering dishes in a safe, professional, state-of-the-art kitchen. *Please note: Due to the nature of this programme we cannot accommodate campers with food allergies of any kind or any special dietary restrictions.Fashion Design CampAges 10-13, $235Fundamentals of design provide the basis for campers to create sketches, illustrate, design and execute projects from start to finish. Campers work with raw fabrics and recycled clothing to craft their final masterpiece – which they will show off at the camp’s very own runway show! Dungeons & DragonsAges 10-15, $215Campers harness the imagination through role-play to overcome obstacles and outwit opponents. Campers learn cooperation, independence and problem-solving skills while interacting with peers in this well-supervised programme. Suitable for first-time players or for experienced D&D-ers.Senior Fine ArtsAges 12-15, $235Campers learn skills of art appreciation and critiquing through workshops, with emphasis on creativity and fine art technique.
