Mayoral Debate on Toronto’s Waterfront

Monday, Oct. 4, 2010, 1-3 p.m.

Moderated by Nicole Swerhun

TORONTO, ON (Sept 27, 2010) – The York Quay and Bathurst Quay Neighbourhood Associations (YQNA and BQNA) will host an all-candidates' debate from 1-3 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 4 in the Brigantine Room at Harbourfront Centre.

There have been numerous comments in the media that (except for the island airport) there has been no mention of the Waterfront, which is the site for the largest urban development in North America! Much work has been done and there is much more to come. That will be the focus of this debate -- a 100% Waterfront Debate. Mayoral candidates Rob Ford, Joe Pantalone, Rocco Rossi, George Smitherman and Sarah Thomson will field questions about the fast-changing Waterfront.

• Do the candidates support the Waterfront Revitalization -- the largest Urban Revitalization in North America – and recognize its impact on Toronto?
• As home to 40,000 people and 40,000 new jobs, how will the candidates help the Waterfront succeed?
• How will the candidates improve the methods of reaching the Waterfront for 12 million visitors yearly and for local residents?

Expect questions about:
• Queens Quay redevelopment
• Transit
• Air and noise pollution
• The harbour and island airport
• Economic impact of the Waterfront and much more.

All are welcome – residents, business owners, media, and all Torontonians who love the Waterfront!

Harbourfront Centre is located at 235 Queens Quay West, in the heart of downtown Toronto's waterfront. For more information, please call our Information Hotline at 416-973-4000 or visit
