TORONTO, June 15, 2010 ----- Authors at Harbourfront Centre is delighted to announce the preliminary line-up for the 31st annual International Festival of Authors (IFOA), October 20–30, 2010. For 11 days each October, the IFOA presents a plethora of readings, panel discussions, onstage interviews, book signings and a number of special events featuring the most exciting authors in contemporary literature. Appearances by authors from Canada and around the world at Toronto’s Harbourfront Centre affords audiences more opportunities than ever to meet their favourite authors and encounter new voices.

Tickets to three IFOA special events go on sale this Thursday, June 17 and can be purchased through or by phone at 416-973-4000.

Oct. 25 – Governor General’s Literary Award shortlist readings: $25/$20 members
Oct. 27 – Rogers Writers’ Trust Fiction Prize shortlist readings: $18/$15 members
Oct. 31 – Scotiabank Giller Prize shortlist readings: $25/$20 members

IFOA’s preliminary line-up includes 71 authors writing in categories from literary fiction to picture books, narrative non-fiction to graphic novels, poetry to thrillers. Authors confirmed thus far include: heavy-hitters Michael Cunningham, Paul Harding, Jonathan Franzen, Andrea Levy, Jeff Lindsay, David Mitchell, DBC Pierre, John Waters, and Fay Weldon; Can-lit icons David Bergen, Ian Brown, Dionne Brand, Charlotte Gray, Jack Hodgins, Dany Laferrière, Yann Martel, and Jane Urquhart; international stars Paolo Giordano, Claudio Magris, Anchee Min, and Eshkol Nevo; crime-fiction specialists Thomas Perry, Peter Robinson and Lisa Scottoline; two of The New Yorker’s “Top 20 Under 40,” Joshua Ferris and Wells Tower; debut novelists Eleanor Catton and Chevy Stevens; poets M.T. Kelly and Priscila Uppal; graphic novelists Charles Burns and Dylan Horrocks; and for young lit-lovers Sylvie Daigneault, Wallace Edwards, Rebecca James, Alice Kuipers, Katie Smith Milway, Kenneth Oppel, and Vikki VanSickle, all part of IFOA’s YoungIFOA programme.

IFOA also continues to expand its touring programme, IFOA Ontario, with events scheduled in locations throughout the province such as Barrie, Burlington, Midland, Orillia, Owen Sound, Parry Sound, Picton, Port Hope, Sudbury, Uxbridge and Windsor. These satellite events take IFOA authors on the road to connect with audiences beyond downtown Toronto. IFOA Ontario takes place from October 20 to November 6; specific dates to be announced.

Since its inception in 1974, Authors at Harbourfront Centre has hosted over 5,000 authors from more than 100 countries, including 17 Nobel Laureates. Our season runs from September to June and includes the annual International Festival of Authors (IFOA) (October 20–30, 2010), including YoungIFOA and IFOA Ontario; and the annual ALOUD: a Celebration for Young Readers with Forest of Reading® Festival of Trees™ (May 2011).
