Barbados on the Water brings the heat back to
Toronto’s waterfront

Experience Barbadian culture at Harbourfront Centre May 28 - 29, 2010

TORONTO, ON (May 19, 2010) – Toronto gets set to celebrate Bajan cuisine, fashion, music and theatre as Barbados on the Water returns to Harbourfront Centre, May 28 - 29, 2010. The two-day festival, hosted by Barbados Tourism Authority, the Consulate General of Barbados and Harbourfront Centre, combines events that are free and open to Torontonians of all ages, with additional ticketed cultural activities celebrating the spicy island culture of Barbados.

Feel the beat of the island with lively musical performances by Barbadian artists. Up and coming R&B sensation Jaicko, performs tracks from his much anticipated debut album Can I ; while one of Barbados’ most popular performers, Red Plastic Bag, proves his title as “calypso monarch” with a mesmerizing mix of reggae and soca. Acclaimed saxophonist, Elan Trotman, will have the audience moving as he brings a blend of Caribbean rhythms with skillful horn texture.

Visitors have the chance to sample the mouth-watering Bajan cuisine and beverages by top-ranked Barbadian chefs including Chef Paul, culinary master to the likes of Sean “Diddy” Combs and Denzel Washington. Chef Paul will represent the Barbados as he competes against Toronto’s Howard Dubrovsky of L.A.B Restaurant, in the festival’s Iron Chef: Barbados vs. Canada competition.

Experience SAYGE Theatre Company as they perform Glenville Lovell’s Going for Love, a dramatic comedy that takes you through serious issues of love, commitment, sacrifice, marital infidelity and migration.

This year’s entertainment lineup is better than ever with creative workshops, a fashion show, a visual arts exhibit, family-friendly Kids Zone, and more.

All Barbados on the Water events are FREE unless otherwise indicated.

For additional information and complete event listings, the public may visit harbourfrontcentre.com/worldroutes/festivals or call the information hotline at 416-973-4000. Harbourfront Centre is located at 235 Queens Quay West.
