Open House at Harbourfront Centre’s Nautical Centre
May 1-2, 2010

TORONTO, ON (Apr. 23, 2010) Ahoy, mateys! The Nautical Centre at Harbourfront Centre is hosting an Open House for the public. Expert boaters and beginners alike are invited to come down to the waterfront on May 1 & 2 to discover the exciting programmes and facilities the Nautical Centre has to offer!

Come to our Open House the first weekend of May and enjoy FREE boat rides and marine demos. If you decide you love boating, or want to learn more, you can take advantage of exclusive Open House discounts on courses and memberships to get you started on your new pursuit.

Located at 275 Queens Quay West (at the foot of Rees Street), Harbourfront’s Nautical Centre hosts a slew of organizations offering marine activities for people of all ages and abilities, including the visually impaired. All “on board” for the Open House weekend, these groups include Harbourfront Centre Sailing and Powerboating (HCSP), Harbourfront Canoe and Kayak Centre, Queens Quay Disabled Sailing Association and Harbourfront Centre Summer Camps Programme.

The Nautical Centre Open House will run throughout both Saturday, May 1 and Sunday, May 2. The weekend itinerary follows:

11:45 a.m. First boat ride goes out and refreshments are served in the members’ lounge and patio, with information sessions in the front office area, in the large classroom and outside.

12 noon Canoe School’s first Voyager Trip boat rides begin.

12:15 p.m. Boating demos take place in the dock area. Canoes and kayaks will be displayed.

12:30 p.m. Second “wave” of boat rides embark (Sail, Powerboat and Voyager rides).

1 p.m. Boating demonstration by Disabled Sailing.

1:15 p.m. Third set of boat rides embark (Sail, Powerboat and Voyager rides).

1:30 p.m.Bridgit Bowskill (HCSP Head Sailing Camp Instructor) to give Dinghy boat demonstrations at the dock.

2 p.m. Fourth set of boat rides to embark (Sail, Powerboat and Voyager rides). Tim Westmorland (HCSP Fleet Coordinator) to give demonstration on having the correct safety equipment onboard and how to properly use your outboard engine.

2:45 p.m. Fifth set of boat rides (Sail, Powerboat and Voyager rides).

3:30 p.m. The last free boat rides embark (Sail and Powerboat).

The Nautical Centre is open year-round for a range of fun activities. Hours are as follows:
Spring(April 24 to May 14), 9 a.m.-6 p.m., 7 days/week
Summer(May 15 to Oct. 8), 9 a.m.-9 p.m., 7 days/week
Winter(Oct. 9 and onwards), 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Tuesday-Thursday

Beyond the Nautical Centre, Harbourfront Centre’s 10-acre downtown waterfront site offers an array of other marine experiences including two marinas, our fleet of sail and powerboats offering private daily and long-term rentals, and boating lessons of different kinds offered at every skill level.

New for the 2010 season, Harbourfront Centre Sailing and Powerboating is a recently-authorized dealer for APS Canada’s outboard motors and inflatables ranging in size from nine to 14 feet. The full line of APS (Advance Power Sports) products can now be conveniently bought right at the waterfront at HCSP!
