Kick off the new year with SKATE CULTURE events at
Harbourfront Centre
Get active and have fun on two outdoor skating rinks


TORONTO, ON (Jan. 6, 2010) – This new year, Harbourfront Centre wants to help you stick to your resolution to get active and have fun! This winter’s SKATE CULTURE events offer fun and energetic programming for the whole family to enjoy.

Season-long activities include Learn to Skate programmes for children, teens and adults, along with private and group lessons, drop-in clinics and romantic date skates. Once you’ve mastered your skating technique, boogie and blade with Toronto’s hottest DJs at DJ Skate Nights. Every Saturday night (ending Feb.13) features a new DJ spinning a mix of groovy tunes including house, funk, soul and pop-rock!

All SKATE CULTURE events take place on one of two outdoor rinks at Harbourfront Centre. The beautiful Natrel® Rink is located along the scenic shores of Lake Ontario at 235 Queens Quay West. The Natrel®Kinder Rink is located under the Lakeside Terrace Tent, and is made from a revolutionary material that you can skate on all year round.

SKATE CULTURE featured events:

Natrel® Rink - Toronto’s favourite outdoor rink is open daily until early March (weather permitting). Skate and helmet rentals, sharpening service, change rooms and lockers are available. Hours of operation are Sunday to Thursday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. For more info call 416-973-4866.

Natrel® Kinder Rink - The Natrel® Kinder Rink is the newest addition to Harbourfront Centre’s skating facilities and thanks to Artificial Grass & Landscaping (AGL), its exclusive North American distributor; it is the first public facility of its kind to open in Canada. The Natrel® Kinder Rink is a synthetic ice surface that’s made from a safe, eco-friendly and innovative material. It is perfect for children and adults who have never skated before or who are still getting the hang of it! Open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Learn to Skate - Lessons for children, teens and adults are taught by experienced instructors in small groups, allowing a comfortable learning environment and personal attention to amateur skaters. The 2010 classes start Jan. 13 and run until Feb. 21 (weather permitting). For more information and to register call 416-973-4093.

DJ Skate Nights - Toronto’s top DJs get the party started at Toronto’s premier ice skating events every Saturday night from 8 p.m.-11 p.m. until Feb. 13. The new year features several free events including a ‘50s and ‘60s flashback on Jan. 9 with the Goin Steady DJs.


Other highlights include Nocturnal DJs (Jan. 16), Promise DJs (Jan. 23), Deejay L’Oqenz and The 2 Swift Household (Jan. 30), and a Black History Month celebration with DJs Carl Allen and Kwame Younge (Feb. 6). This season of DJ Skate Nights ends on Feb. 13 with the Cherry Bomb DJs as they spin the best dance music in the city.
