AUTHORS AT HARBOURFRONT CENTRE’S WEEKLY PROGRAMMING
RETURNS WITH TWO NOT-TO-MISS NOVEMBER EVENTS
Al Purdy A-Frame Anthology Launch and Jonathan Lethem round out fall lineup TORONTO, November 5, 2009 ---- Following the most successful International Festival of Authors to date (October 21–31, 2009), Authors at Harbourfront Centre’s (AUTHORS) weekly programming returns with two events to round out the fall portion of its 36th season. Celebrate the launch of the Al Purdy A-Frame Anthology alongside anthology contributors and Canadian literary celebs (Nov. 18) and listen in as Jonathan Lethem reads from his latest novel and takes part in an onstage interview (Nov. 25). On Wednesday, November 18 AUTHORS plays host to the Al Purdy A-Frame Anthology Launch, featuring presentations from a number of anthology contributors including Russell Morton Brown, Steven Heighton, Dennis Lee, Michael Ondaatje, John Reeves, and Paul Vermeersch. Proceeds from the book, and a special auction of Al Purdy items, help support the preservation of the beloved Purdy home as a retreat for future generations of Canadian writers; once known as one of the most important crossroads for notable Canadian writers from the 1950s to the 1990s. John Degan of the Arts Council of Ontario hosts this evening of poetry and anecdotes. On Wednesday, November 25, bestselling and award-winning American author Jonathan Lethem takes the stage to read from his latest novel, Chronic City – a gorgeous, searing portrayal of Manhattanites wrapped in their own delusions, desires, and lies – followed by an onstage interviewed (interviewer TBC). Lethem is the author of eight previous novels, including the bestsellers The Fortress of Solitude and Motherless Brooklyn, four short story collections, a collection of autobiographical essays, a novella and a comic book. His stories and essays have appeared in the New Yorker, Rolling Stone, Esquire, McSweeny's, Tin House, New York Times and others.Additional information is available at www.readings.org under “Events.”Events take place in the York Quay Centre (235 Queens Quay West).
