FREE STUDENT TICKETS TO CANADA’S PREMIER BOOK FESTIVAL
International Festival of Authors celebrates 30 years with IFOA XXXTORONTO, September 22, 2009 ------- The International festival of Authors (IFOA) is pleased to offer free tickets to students to all regularly priced events (subject to availability) to its 30th anniversary festival. This year’s 11-day festival kicks off October 21, 2009 and features a who’s who of literary talent. Canada’s biggest literary happening celebrates its thirtieth birthday with readings, interviews, thought-provoking round tables, and chances to meet the most inspiring and talked-about authors on today’s literary scene. The IFOA lineup includes literary heavyweights Margaret Atwood, Alice Munro, Paul Theroux and Nobel prize winner Orhan Pamuk; International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award winner Michael Thomas; 2009 Man Booker shortlist nominee Sarah Waters; graphic artist of New Yorker fame R.O. Blechman; Liberal Party leader Michael Ignatieff; “Peep Culture” expert Hal Niedzviecki; local poets Meaghan Strimas and Kyle Buckley; and Canadian songbird Anne Murray.In total there are more than 130 participants from 15 countries confirmed to participate in this year’s festival. A special focus on Scottish authors – Writing Scotland – contributes more than 15 authors, including international crime-writing star Ian Rankin, for a festive Highland Fling.In addition to IFOA, students can reserve free tickets to the Authors at Harbourfront Centre weekly reading series that offers a stellar line-up of bestselling, award-winning and up-and-coming authors. Since its inception in 1974, AUTHORS has hosted over 5,000 authors from more than 100 countries, including 16 Nobel Laureates. Its season runs from September to June and, in addition to the weekly reading series, also includes the annual ALOUD: a Celebration for Young Readers with Forest of Reading® Festival of Trees™ (May 2010).
