Award-Winning Actor and Improviser Rebecca Northan Enlists an Unsuspecting Audience Member to be Her Blind Date - No Script No Safety Net No Escape

TORONTO, ON (February 12, 2009) – Harbourfront Centre’s World Stage 08:09 turns its gaze on what can be considered one of the most beautiful, awkward and emotional human experiences: falling in love; with Rebecca Northan’s witty, saucy and breathtaking show Blind Date. Northan plays Mimi, a young Parisian woman waiting for a blind date in a café somewhere along the banks of the Seine. When she is stood up, Mimi turns to the audience to find someone brave enough to answer love’s call. Blind Date runs Tuesday, March 3 through Saturday, March 7, 2009.

Fresh from a run in Calgary that received overwhelming praise from audiences and reviewers alike, Blind Date is a fusion of clown, improvisation, theatre, and social experiment–and one of the most daring theatrical undertakings you are likely to see this year. “Five stars out of five.” – Calgary Herald

Tickets for Blind Date and all World Stage performances are available through the Harbourfront Centre box office by phone at 416-973-4000, or through

“...Blind Date is important theatre, and Northan creates a magic that instantly blows apart the fourth wall and lets us safely experiment with her and what life could be like with Mimi—the sexiest and most lovable Parisian woman to ever wear a clown nose.” - The New West Magazine

Originally performed as a ten minute burlesque-clown piece at The Spiegel Show in the Spiegeltent'ntavern at Harbourfront Centre in the summer of 2007, Blind Date quickly became a crowd favourite. Northan developed the piece into a 90-minute performance which seats the audience in a unique cabaret-style setting complete with wine bar.

Prior to each performance, Northan (as Mimi) mingles with the audience in order to select the “date”, and then explores with them the ups and downs of love, heart break and everything in between. The result is nail-biting hilarity, voyeurism, and thrills!
