Explosive Vancouver-based Choreographer Crystal Pite Makes a Stopover at World Stage with her Company Kidd Pivot and the Astounding Lost Action

TORONTO, ON – November 11, 2008 – World renowned choreographer Crystal Pite brings her signature dance company Kidd Pivot and the intense creation Lost Action to World Stage, November 26 through November 29, 2008. While Pite has performed numerous times in Toronto, this marks the debut of Kidd Pivot on a Toronto stage, an exclusive engagement that Harbourfront Centre is thrilled to welcome as part of World Stage 08:09.

The seven world-class dancers of Kidd Pivot, including Pite, will ignite the Fleck Dance Theatre (formerly Premiere Dance Theatre) stage in what promises to be one of the most physical dance productions to land in Toronto this year. Lost Action is the seventh production of World Stage 08:09, running through May 2009 at Harbourfront Centre.

Lost Action made its debut at the Vancouver East Cultural Centre in 2006, and has since gone on to harvest high praise from audiences and critics. Currently touring all over the world, Pite’s Kidd Pivot has most recently performed Lost Action to audiences in Frankfurt, Budapest and Tel Aviv, in addition to stops in Canada and the United States, leaving audiences stunned by the power and grace of Pite’s trademark choreography.

Since forming Kidd Pivot in 2001, Pite has been a very busy fixture in the international contemporary dance landscape. Among her most recent accomplishments, she was the recipient of the inaugural Governor General Performing Arts Awards Mentorship Programme in March of 2008, which put her under the tutelage of legendary prima ballerina Veronica Tennant.

Crystal Pite will showcase a world premiere with the National Ballet of Canada in March of 2009. Pite served as choreographer-in-residence at the Netherlands Dance Theatre 1 and has created works for Cullberg Ballet, Ballett Frankfurt, Les Ballets Jazz de Montréal, Cedar Lake, Ballet British Columbia, the Alberta Ballet, Ballet Jörgen as well as collaborations with a throng of independent dance artists.

Lost Action is a co-production of The Candance Network Creation Fund, L’Agora de la Danse, Brian Webb Dance Company, Harbourfront Centre and The National Arts Centre and is supported by the Dance Section of the Canada Council for the Arts.
