A Third Year of Compelling Performances at Harbourfront Centre with Four World Premieres, One North American Premiere and Perennial Favourites

TORONTO, August 25, 2008Harbourfront Centre is thrilled to announce the remarkable third season of NextSteps 2008/09. With an incredible range of leading choreographers and top dancers, NextSteps enables Toronto’s pre-eminent dance companies the opportunity to reflect the diversity of their broad international backgrounds and influences.

The consummate NextSteps 2008/09 season opens October 2, 2008 and runs to June 20, 2009. The first two performances of the series, the DanceWorks presentation of Daniel Léveillé Danse and ProArteDanza, are part of Harbourfront Centre’s Québec Now!, a programme that will focus on the vast contemporary art and vibrant culture originating from the province.

“Starting with Québec Now!, the third season of NextSteps is sure to be amazing,” said Jeanne Holmes, Harbourfront Centre’s Dance Programmer. “With World Premieres from ProArteDanza, Toronto Dance Theatre, Dancemakers and The Chimera Project, plus the world's largest festival and conference devoted to Indian dance, this 25th anniversary season of dance at Harbourfront Centre reflects the excitement and energy of the far reaching dance world that Toronto calls its own. After 25 years - we're just getting started!”

The Enwave Theatre and newly refurbished Premiere Dance Theatre, celebrating 25 years as Toronto’s leading stage for contemporary dance with a Gala re-opening September 25-27, 2008, will once again be the venues for NextSteps.

SooRyu Festival - Korean Dance Studies Society - A DanceWorks CoWorks presentation
A medley of elaborate and important ritual dances that features works from Buddhist monks of the Bongwon Temple, Mi Young Kim Dance Company, Denise Fujiwara, Peter Chin and Sashar Zarif.

Cantos de la Tierra (Songs of the Earth) - Esmeralda Enrique Spanish Dance Company World Premiere

Glorious Soulful Messiah - Ballet Creole
This wonderful rendition of a holiday classic combines popular soul music, contemporary and African-Caribbean dance with the festive season.

The Nutcracker - Xing Dance Theatre
