POWER BALL 8 “Gorgeously Flawed” treads toward
perfection with Photo Campaign and Sponsor Boost
Power Ball 8 set to intrigue guests in new ways

TORONTO, May 15, 2006 - Guests of Power Ball 8 (June 1) will be intrigued by various interpretations of the theme translated throughout the event. With its first ever photo-based campaign, this year’s Power Ball already has many inquisitive and in high anticipation, beginning with the release of its invitation. “The absence of flaw in beauty is itself a flaw.” - Henry Ellis

The Office of Gilbert Li brought creative genius to the photo campaign for Power Ball 8. The photos feature “gorgeously flawed” people, pillared on the idea behind the theme that beauty stems from imperfection. Whether a young girl with braces overdone with make-up to look well-beyond her years, or an oddly over-posed male with sweat dripping down his face, the photos taken by Sandy Nicholson suggest that a person doesn’t have to be flawless to be gorgeous and ‘picture perfect’.

“Following Andy Warhol, and his famous quip that he had not met anyone who was not a beauty, these photos provoke questions on beauty, and what ‘gorgeously flawed’ means to each individual” says Gregory Burke, Director, The Power Plant. “Power Ball 8—Gorgeously Flawed reflects the vitality of contemporary art and is strongly connected to what we do year-round at The Power Plant by showcasing some of the world’s best and most thought-provoking works.”

Sponsors are engaging in the “Gorgeously Flawed” theme in a variety of ways, to be unveiled in the weeks leading up to and at the event. Holt Renfrew has signed on as a sponsor for its third consecutive year, while Hugo Boss, Boss Selection and Freeze 24-7 are also among the Partnering Sponsors, while Aylesworth LLP, Globalive and Niagara Fallsview Casino have joined the fold as Supporting Sponsors.
The Power Ball is The Power Plant’s annual high-profile fundraising event that brings together the who’s who of the contemporary arts and culture worlds. The invitation to the Power Ball is coveted each year as The Power Plant opens its doors to Toronto’s, and indeed Canada’s, taste leaders who support gallery exhibition and educational programming through this unique fundraising event.
