HarvestFest - Family Thanksgiving at Harbourfront Centre
Free Admission! Sunday October 9 and Monday October 10, 2005

TORONTO, September 22, 2005-Harbourfront Centre packs two days FULL of free fun family events and activities into one Thanksgiving HarvestFest weekend! Pumpkin races, watermelon seed spitting, a pie eating contest, gourd ring tosses - families can engage in all these events and activities while hearing great music or watching a display of Harvest dances. This Sunday October 9 also marks the reopening of the ZOOM! Room - where kids and families can play with puppets or LEGO as well as Gallery Kids - a family friendly tour and activity discovery of contemporary art.

HarvestFest will also feature rare public screenings of ten episodes from the Letters From Wingfield Farm television series. This beloved play (one of four in Wingfield series) has become a national treasure with more than 3,000 theatre performances across the country, including a run at Stratford this summer and an upcoming Spring 2006 Mirvish production. These episodes are taken from the twenty-episode Wingfield series that made its debut on CBC-TV in 1998 and has since rerun on Bravo.

HarvestFest events take place over two days (Sunday October 9 and Monday October 10, 2005) at Harbourfront Centre. Both days begin at noon and end at 6 p.m. and will also include food demos and vendors and $2 pony rides. All events are free admission and suitable for the entire family. Toronto Star Stage / Ann Tindal Lawn
(October 9 - noon, 1 p.m., 2:30 p.m.; October 10 - noon an 3 p.m.)
The Great Pumpkin Race (contestants balance a pumpkin atop their heads and race for prizes).
Pass The Apple (contestants work together in a relay to carry and pass an apple without using their hands).

ZOOM! Kidzone Tent activities (October 9 & 10):
noon - Watermelon spitting game (how far can you spit a watermelon seed); 1:30 p.m.- Try to eat an apple on a string without using your hands; 2:30 p.m. - Bean toss game (how many beans can get in the bowl); 3:30 p.m. - Gourd ring toss.

Sculpture Court (October 9 & 10 - noon to 6 p.m.) - ZOOM! Make-and-Take Crafts (free)
Craft activities include farm house carrying boxes and scarecrow jumping jacks
Avenue of Trees (October 9 & 10 - noon to 6 p.m.)Pony Rides ($2 ticket)

- Harvest Dances from around the Globe (hosted by Tricia Williams)
Nouvel Expose perform an Ethiopian Oromo dance reminiscent of women making butter. Gunaseelan Dance Company perform two different  harvest dances from India - one from Rajasthan and the other from West-Bengal. Grupo Chile perform a traditional dance in celebration of the grape harvest.

In this CBC Television series (originally written by Dan Needles) actor Rod Beattie brings alive Walt Wingfield, a stock broker gone farmer. Walt recounts his hilarious adventures and misadventures during his first year back on the farm where he tries to combine Bay Street corporate strategy with rural Ontario farming.

Ongoing ZOOM! Activities

Room (Sundays and holiday Mondays beginning October 9 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.)
Families are invited to the ZOOM! Room, a fun interactive space. The ZOOM! Room features an interactive puppet area and the LEGO Creative Play Area where kids can use their imagination to build a robot, a creature and more!

Gallery Kids (Beginning on October 9 on Sundays and holiday Mondays)
The entire family can engage in exploring contemporary art! Gallery Kids combines tours of Harbourfront Centre’s galleries with hands-on interactive activities facilitated by gallery staff. It’s all a family friendly discovery of contemporary art. Families must meet in the ZOOM! Room at 2 p.m. to begin the tour and afterwards return to the ZOOM! Room for a creative activity.
