Coach House Press turns 40 and Celebrates with International Readings!

Toronto, August 30, 2005--Tucked away on Toronto’s historic bpNichol Lane, Coach House Press has been printing and publishing innovative fiction and poetry since 1965. The creaky, cobwebbed corners of the press have been the birthplace of great poetic and printing invention, a haven for the avant-garde and the anarchic, a repository of revolutionary inclinations and ideas. Over the past forty years, it has been the home and hangout of many of the world’s most eminent cultural figures, and has published books by some of the country’s most well-respected authors, including George Bowering, bpNichol, Nicole Brossard, Christian Bök, Jonathan Goldstein, Steve McCaffery, Anne Michaels, Michael Ondaatje, Michael Redhill and Gail Scott.

To celebrate Coach House Press’s ruby anniversary, International Readings presents A Virtual Tour of the Coach House Press. This multimedia event will feature readings and reminiscences by George Bowering, Stephen Cain, Margaret Christakos, Lynn Crosbie, Karen Hines, Andrew Kaufman, Anne Michaels, Darren O’Donnell, Michael Ondaatje, Sarah Sheard, Darren Wershler-Henry and David Young, and will be hosted by Michael Redhill. Bring your friends, family and colleagues and Coach House will show you how young at heart they still are!

A Virtual Tour of the Coach House Press takes place Wednesday, September 14, 2005 in Harbourfront Centre’s Brigantine Room, 235 Queens Quay West at 7:30 p.m. Tickets $8, free for members and students (with valid ID). For more information and to book tickets the public may visit or call the Harbourfront Centre box office at 416.973.4000.
