Cesaria Evora is widely acknowledged as Cape Verde's international ambassador of the morna song style, which combines West African percussion with Portuguese fado and Brazilian modinhas and many other influences. However, this multiple grammy nominee struggled until her late forties to be heard beyond Cape Verde and it wasn't until she began to perform and record in Paris in the early 1990s that she first achieved popular acclaim in France and than widespread international fame.

Cesaria Evora is now a certified international star with classic releases like Cesaria, Mar Azul, Cafe Atlantico, Sao Vicente and Voz D'Amour. She has collaborated with Bonnie Raitt and Caetano Veloso and regularly tours worldwide. Her songs and voice are instantly recognizable as they continue their unique journey through Latin, African and World music styles.
