Media Contact: Stephen Myers 416.973.4147International Readings Announces Formation of International Advisory CommitteeToronto-London-New York, Friday, March 4, 2005-“I am delighted to announce the formation of an advisory Committee under the stewardship of Bruce Westwood,” said Geoffrey Taylor, Director of Harbourfront Centre’s literary programmes prior to departing for the London Book Fair. “Bruce, Avie Bennett and I have been discussing this project over the past year.”Composed of representatives from the key English language publishing centres of Toronto, New York and London the Committee is charged with assisting Mr. Taylor in further enhancing the level of literary excellence presented to the public by the International Readings at Harbourfront (IRAH) programme.The Committee is chaired by Bruce Westwood, President of Westwood Creative Artists and founding President of the IRAH board of directors and also featuresHelen Fraser, Managing Director of Penguin (U.K) and Sonny Mehta, Chairman and Editor-In-Chief of Alfred A. Knopf (U.S.A.). Rounding out the Committee are Mr. Taylor and Avie Bennett, current President of IRAH’s board of directors and Chairman of McClelland & Stewart. “I am honoured to work with individuals who are committed to advancing the cause of literature in the world community,” said Bruce Westwood. Mr. Taylor and Mr. Westwood will meet with Ms. Fraser in London prior to the first full Committee meeting scheduled to take place in New York in June, coinciding with Book Expo America.International Readings at Harbourfront Centre is home to the weekly International Readings series, the annual International Festival of Authors and most recently, ALOUD: a Celebration for Young Readers. Since its formation in 1974, the programme has presented over 4,500 authors, from 100 countries, including 13 Nobel laureates as well as numerous Giller Prize, Man Booker Prize, and Governor General’s Award winners.This year’s International Readings spring season is already underway and continues through June 22. The first annual ALOUD: a Celebration for Young Readers takes place June 24-26, 2005 at various Harbourfront Centre venues.
