Harbourfront Centre brings back fireworks to
Toronto’s central waterfront
Canada Eve Fireworks Presented by OLG
June 30, 2013

TORONTO, ON (May 2, 2013) – Harbourfront Centre is pleased to announce that fireworks will return to the central waterfront this Canada Day weekend. With the generous support of the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) as presenting sponsor, Harbourfront Centre hosts a spectacular two-barge fireworks display on water set to music.

Canada Eve Fireworks, Presented by OLG will take place on Sunday, June 30 at approximately 10:30 p.m. and can be enjoyed from the boardwalk on Harbourfront Centre’s site (south of Queens Quay between York Street and Rees Street), Toronto Island or on the water. The fireworks will be the highlight of Harbourfront Centre’s Canada Day Weekend Celebrations with activities for the whole family, featuring three days of live performances on the outdoor WestJet Stage and Redpath Stage. Plus, on June 30 and July 1 a special stage will feature musical performances by major Canadian artists for a total of three stages of entertainment!

Harbourfront Centre CEO William J.S. Boyle said, “It’s been over a decade since there have been fireworks on the central waterfront and we are pleased to bring them back for everyone to enjoy. With over 17 million visits to Harbourfront Centre annually, Canada Day Weekend remains one of our busiest weekends and this year it will be an even bigger celebration.”

The ‘Canada Eve Fireworks’ mark the opening of two new public spaces at Harbourfront Centre – Ontario Square and Canada Square – at the end of June. These spectacular public squares provide the public with beautifully designed open access to Toronto’s central waterfront at Harbourfront Centre.

“OLG is proud to participate with Harbourfront Centre in bringing back a favourite event on the eve of Canada’s favourite day – Canada Day," said OLG President and CEO, Rod Phillips.
“We are happy to support this event in Toronto where it will be enjoyed by both Torontonians and tourists alike. This is just one of dozens of events and festivals OLG sponsors in communities across Ontario each and every year.”

‘Canada Eve Fireworks’ kicks off Harbourfront Centre’s summer season with a bang – this summer Harbourfront Centre is producing over 20 major weekend festivals and events complementing ongoing summer activities such as visual arts exhibitions, summer camps for youth and canoe rides on the Natrel® pond. Starting this May and running until October, Harbourfront Centre presents the world in one place, including festivals from across the globe, outdoor dancing, films under the stars, concerts in a garden setting, Toronto’s tastiest menu, and, of course, a gorgeous view. Best of all, most events are free!
