Harbourfront Centre sizzles with South American folk music and the Spanish beat on October 3TORONTO, September 22, 2004 – Embark on a music adventure filled with South American folksongs, gypsy music and Spanish dances written by some of the foremost Spanish composers. In Latin Colors, Marie-Hélène Breault, flute, and Catherine Meunier, percussion, combine the warmth of the hot Spanish sun and the sensuality of South American music to sweep the audience away to a new world. As part of the Music with Bite concert series, Latin Colors takes place Sunday, October 3, at 1 p.m., at Harbourfront Centre, 235 Queens Quay West. Tickets are $8 each or $25 for four tickets. The almost boundless possibilities of resonance from the various percussion instruments lend themselves to unexplored and mesmerizing combinations of sound. From Bizet’s Carmen to Astor Piazzolla’s languorous tangos, the duo present a spectacular programme. Meunier, the first percussionist laureate of the Prix d’Europe in 2000, and Breault, first prize winner of the Clermont- Pépin Competition in the same year, are currently completing their doctorate degree in music at the Université de Montréal.Music with Bite is an intimate, refreshing experience; children can sit up close to the artists and after the concert ask them questions, while enjoying a complimentary Natrel milk beverage and cookies.
