TORONTO, October 23, 2012 ----- The International Visitors (IV) Programme, in association with Authors at Harbourfront Centre, is pleased to announce Scott McIntyre, co-founder of D&M Publishers, as the inaugural recipient of the Ivy Award. The Ivy Award is an annual award presented to a person who has made a substantial contribution to Canadian publishing.

Based on the merits of more than 40 years spent in the publishing industry and his contributions to fostering great business partnerships, creating effective relationships in both national and international markets and for his passionate representation of Canadian publishing, McIntyre—who was selected by a jury comprised of Cynthia Good (Director, Creative Book Publishing at Humber College), Martin Levin (Books Editor, Globe and Mail) and Ben McNally (Proprietor, Ben McNally Books)—said of his win:

"I am deeply honoured to have been chosen to receive this inaugural award. Receiving it from a peer group jury as part of the International Visitor’s Programme is a double honour. Kudos to the Committee for deciding to acknowledge the role book publishers play, and at the same time, tipping your collective hat to the 'home team.'"

Literary agent Beverley Slopen, a member of the IV Programme, was the acting liaison between the Committee and the jury.

McIntyre was presented with his award last night at the Governor General’s Literary Award Finalists reading as part of the International Festival of Authors.

Celebrating its fifth year, the IV Programme invites publishing professionals from around the world to participate in five days of inter-industry dialogue with the goal of increasing opportunities for Canadian authors and publishers abroad. IV Programme participants benefit from a full schedule of publisher-hosted events and receptions, a mini rights-fair, and an industry-focused keynote address, as well as attending a number of IFOA onstage events. This year’s IV Programme runs from October 21 to 25 as part of the International Festival of Authors (IFOA) (October 18–28, 2012).
