Calypso STARS
July 31, 2012
Experience Toronto’s vibrant calypso community

TORONTO, ON (July 4, 2012) – On July 31, 2012 at 7:30 p.m., Harbourfront Centre presents a two-and-a-half hour Calypso STARS. The evening features popular calypso singers performing original songs from Toronto’s annual Calypso Tents Music Series (CTMS), along with top Canadian soca artists and special guests.

Calypso STARS highlights include performances from England’s famed calypso master, recording artist, teacher and writer, Alexander D’Great. Known for his political and social commentary delivered with wit and style, D’Great is an energetic and inspirational performer who recently won the Association of British Calypsonians’ 2010 and 2011 Calypso Monarch titles. Also featured are former Calypso Monarch of Canada, Macomere Fifi (Eulith Tara Woods) and reigning Calypso Monarch Structure performing a selection of their award-winning calypso hits.

Other highlights include music from the evening’s house band Ossie Gurley & The Truth (“Who Let The Dogs Out,” “Moving To The Left” and “Follow The Leader”), traditional Caribbean drumming and steelpan music and Moko Jumbie carnival characters.
