2012 CIBC LunarFest: Treasures of the Sea
We need your help to fill a Lantern Aquarium for the Lunar New Year
Deadline for submissions: December 23, 2011

TORONTO, ON (*Nov. 30, 2011) Harbourfront Centre is pleased to announce that CIBC LunarFest, the celebration of the Lunar New Year, will be held from Friday, Jan. 20 through Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012. The FREE festivities welcoming the Year of the Dragon in a number of Asian cultures will centre around the world’s first and only Lantern Aquarium -- and we need the help of creative kids to make it shine!

CIBC LunarFest began in Vancouver as a part of the Winter Olympics’ Cultural Olympiad in 2009. In 2012, Canada’s newest celebration of one of the world’s oldest festivals comes to Toronto, at Harbourfront Centre. Lanterns play an important role in the festivities, as the Lantern Festival marks the end of the holiday period. At CIBC LunarFest, visitors will not only be able to walk through a giant Lantern Aquarium, but will get to see their own work become a part of the exhibition.

A call for submissions is going out to kids for creative expressions on the theme of “The Treasures of the Sea.” Register on-line at and download a template to create a sea creature from your imagination. Everyone who submits a drawing and shows a registration ID number, is eligible to receive a Year of the Dragon lantern souvenir (while supplies last), and their creatures will be part of the Lantern Aquarium exhibition at CIBC LunarFest. Drawings must be submitted by December 23, 2011 to Harbourfront Centre or to one of the CIBC branches listed at Then, come down to Harbourfront Centre for the festivities, and to see all of the treasures everyone has created.

CIBC LunarFest will also feature Lunar Skate, a part of Harbourfront Centre’s DJ Skate Night series. On Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012 from 8-11 p.m. on the Natrel© Rink, the Lunar Skate party features lanterns, skating activities and more!

For additional information and complete event listings, the public may visit or call the Information Hotline at 416-973-4000. Harbourfront Centre is located at 235 Queens Quay W, in the heart of Toronto’s downtown waterfront.
